18th Milk Drop Depot Opening

Updated: Feb 22

Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee announces a formal partnership with Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) of Winchester to become the organization’s 18th breast milk donation site in the state. The Milk Drop Depot at STRHS will provide a convenient place for pre-screened and approved milk donors to donate their frozen milk to Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee. Donations received at STRHS will be transported to Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee ‘s facility in Murfreesboro, TN.

Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit milk bank dedicated to providing safe, pasteurized donor human milk to the most vulnerable babies. The organization screens prospective donors before accepting their breast milk donations. Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee filters, mixes, bottles, pasteurizes and cultures donated breast milk from approved donors before distributing the donor milk to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Tennessee.

The Depot at STRHS is named in honor of the depot’s first milk donor, Meagan Kurtz’s son, Beau who passed away after he and his twin brother were born at 25 weeks gestation. “Rather than his journey ending when he unfortunately passed away after just one short week, his memory will live on as mothers are able to donate their milk through this local depot to help those like Beau, and his surviving brother, who need a little extra love and support in their beginning,” said Kurtz.

Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee is the state’s only nonprofit milk bank. The organization relies on support from the entire state to further advance their mission to serve all the NICU babies in Tennessee in need of human donor milk and support breastfeeding mothers.

“The opening of the state’s 18 th Milk Drop Depot at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System will allow Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee to better serve our approved donors in the Winchester area. As a result, we will be able to provide more medically fragile babies with lifesaving breastmilk,” said Susan Campbell, MD, IBCLC, and Executive Director of Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee.

The opening of the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee’s 18th Milk Drop Depot was held at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System of Winchester on Wednesday, February 14 at 10 a.m. at 185 Hospital Rd., Winchester, TN.
